The World Becomes What You Teach

Circle of Seasons Charter School intends to open its doors for the 2013-2014 school year. A group of dedicated parents and community members has an educational vision of a Waldorf-Methods charter school for the Lehigh Valley and are working together to create this unique charter school.  While the school will be located within the Northwestern Lehigh School District boundaries, as required by PA Charter Law, we are thrilled that we are able to offer this extraordinary and special learning experience to students and their families in the urban, suburban, and rural areas of the Lehigh Valley and beyond!

As a group, we have developed a powerful vision in offering an alternative educational choice:
a public school with a consistent philosophy, curriculum, and teaching method that embraces the developmental model of the
growing child and awakens each child's full and unique potential. Waldorf-Methods education nurtures a sense of wonder and delight, and fosters a reverence for Nature and Humanity inherent in the young child. The Waldorf-Methods curriculum develops the child's active will, creative imagination, and clear, independent thinking. Lastly, we recognize and expect the school to benefit from the character, vitality, history, and diversity of the Lehigh Valley.

At the present time, Circle of Seasons Charter School plans to open as a Kindergarten - 2nd Grade elementary school.
An additional grade will be added with each subsequent school year, going up to at least 8th Grade.

Additionally, Circle of Seasons Charter School will operate following a non-traditional school year. Students will attend school the same number of required academic days and/or hours as in a traditional public school, but there will be a shorter summer break accompanied by extended breaks
three other times during the calendar year.

As a public charter school, we will meet Pennsylvania State Academic Standards and testing requirements, and comply with health and safety regulations and educational laws applicable to Pennsylvania Charter Schools. Our Circle of Seasons Waldorf-Methods curriculum will meet,
and in many instances, exceed the state standards in timing and content. Some specific aspects of our curriculum, however, may come in a later grade than is typically outlined in state standards. We will consistently work through those unique challenges while striving to bring forth a Waldorf-Methods curriculum that engenders joy and educational excellence.

Circle of Seasons Charter School will be open to all students in Pennsylvania and will adhere to the admissions process as described in the charter law.

Special education services will be fully available and will be provided in full accordance with the law.

Kenneth Chenault, Chairman and CEO of American Express, former student of the Waldorf School of Garden City, had this to say about his Waldorf education:

"My parents were looking for a school that would nurture the whole person. They also felt that the Waldorf school would be a far more open environment for African Americans, and that was focused on educating students with values, as well as the academic tools necessary to be constructive and contributing human beings. ... I think the end result of Waldorf education is to raise our consciousness. There is a heightened consciousness of what our senses bring us from the world around us, about our feelings, about the way we relate to other people. It taught me how to think for myself, to be responsible for my decisions. Second, it made me a good listener, sensitive to the needs of others. And third, it helped establish meaningful beliefs. In all the Main Block lessons -- in history, science, philosophy -- we really probed the importance of values and beliefs. In dealing with a lot of complex issues and a lot of stress, if that isn't balanced by a core of meaningful beliefs, you really will just be consumed and fail."
